Day 1: Arrive San Francisco (D)

Welcome to the USA! On arrival at San Francisco International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This evening join your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2: San Francisco Sightseeing (B)

Take in the amazing views of the most recognised symbol of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge. Discover the colour, stories and charm of Haight-Ashbury, then visit the famous Painted Ladies at Alamo Square. After a visit to Union Square we cruise to the legendary Alcatraz prison for a tour. Finish the day at the historic and colourful markets and shops of Fisherman's Wharf.

Day 3: San Francisco - Yosemite National Park (B,D)

Travel to one of the most beautiful areas of the USA, Yosemite National Park. Witness the powerful granite spires of Half Dome and El Capitan, as well as the phenomenal sites of Yosemite Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.

Day 4: Yosemite National Park - Monterey (B)

Make our way to the picturesque California Coast. This area is known for its outstanding coastal beauty which is revealed on 17 Mile Drive. Skirt azure bays, pass lush forests, view the Lone Cypress Tree clinging to a rocky outcrop, Pebble Beach Golf Links, and visit the beautiful beachside town of Carmel by the Sea.

Day 5: Monterey - Santa Barbara (B)

Make our way south through what is known as the “Breadbasket of California”. This area is punctuated by charming towns and agricultural communities that are one of the largest suppliers of food in the world. Visit the historical Hearst Castle and finish the day in the American Riviera, Santa Barbara.

Day 6: Santa Barbara - Santa Monica - Los Angeles (B,D)

Pass through Malibu where Hollywood’s rich and famous reside, then on to Santa Monica to wander the famous boulevard and Venice Beach. In the afternoon we set out on a city tour. Start with a trip through the downtown area and a visit to the Grammy Museum, then walk along Hollywood Boulevard and see the Walk of Fame. Take a tour of the Dolby Theatre, the home of the Oscars and see the elaborate Grauman's Chinese Theatre. No trip to LA is complete without viewing the Hollywood sign, then drive down the famous Sunset Strip.

Day 8: Los Angeles - Las Vegas (B)

Travel east through the suburbs before hitting the stark dry western deserts. The bright lights and big city of Las Vegas loom out like an oasis. You're Invited: Witness the spectacular Cirque du Soleil. See death defying acrobatics mixed with flamboyant costumes while the performers undertake seemingly impossible feats.

Day 9: Las Vegas (B)

Day 10: Las Vegas - Grand Canyon (B,D)

Make our way to the incredible Grand Canyon. On arrival you will see why this is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. The rugged landscape stretches for as far as the eye can see and it is a highlight of any journey. This evening we’re joined by a local guide for a sunset tour. Your guide will explain about the Canyon’s incredible geology while you watch the changing hues of the Canyon as the sun sets.

Day 11: Grand Canyon - Monument Valley - Lake Powell (B,D)

Travel along the south rim of the canyon and make a stop at the 70 foot high Hopi Watchtower. Make our way through Navajo country and the Painted Desert to one of the grandest landscapes in the United States, Monument Valley. Dominated by crimson mesas and surreal sandstone towers the area is known for dramatic, mesmerizing landforms. You're Invited: Take a jeep tour with a local Navajo guide into Lower Monument Valley visiting John Fords Point, Rain God Mesa, the Totem Pole and dramatic North Window. Finish the day in picturesque Lake Powell.

Day 12: Lake Powell - Bryce Canyon (B,D)

Take a spectacular boat ride through the breath taking canyons of Lake Powell. Your guide will explain the region’s history, geology and culture as you gaze in awe at the towering walls of these narrow sandstone canyons. Head into Utah and make our way to the extraordinary Bryce Canyon which is famous for its unique geology. The distinctive feature of this area is the fascinating pinnacles or hoodoos that rise from the valley floor and canyon wall. In the afternoon we'll journey along the rim of the canyon taking in these extraordinary structures.

Day 13: Bryce Canyon - Salt Lake City (B)

Leave the deserts and canyons behind as you head north to Salt Lake City. Nestled in a fertile valley with a backdrop of Rocky Mountains, Salt Lake City is a great mix of nature and cityscape. You will be taken on an orientation tour of the city including the historic Temple Square, the Mormon Tabernacle and the State Capitol building.

Day 14: Salt Lake City - Jackson (B,D)

Travel north across the Oregon Trail and into Wyoming to the picturesque town of Jackson. Surrounded on all sides by dramatic mountains and set in a picturesque valley, Jackson is a hub for wildlife watching and outdoor recreation.

Day 15: Jackson (B)

Spend the day relaxing or exploring the town. Don't miss the famed Elk Horn Gates that lead into the town's lovely, tree-shaded town square where locals come to relax.

Day 16: Jackson - Grand Teton National Park - Yellowstone National Park (B,D)

Journey along the spine of the Rocky Mountains viewing snow-capped mountains, crystal clear lakes, alpine terrain and an abundance of wildlife. Enter Grand Teton National Park and travel with your guide to the most significant parts of the park including Teton Glacier Turnout, the beautiful Jenny Lake, Jackson Lake and Oxbow Bend. Keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife such as moose, coyote, golden eagles, bison, elk and bears. The afternoon sees us in Yellowstone National Park.

Day 17: Yellowstone National Park (B)

Continue our journey through the famous Yellowstone National Park. Visit Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Lake Yellowstone. Throughout the day you are likely to see some of the local wildlife such as bears, wolves, elk, moose and bighorn sheep. (Itinerary may vary depending on time and lodging allocated).

Day 18: Yellowstone National Park Cody (B,D)

Travel through Shoshone National Forest to the town of Cody, named after the famous showman Buffalo Bill Cody. Visit the Buffalo Bill Centre of the West to learn more about the man and the legend as well as the colourful history of the American West. You're Invited: Take in a Western cowboy show before visiting the original abode and hotel of Buffalo Bill, the Irma Hotel. Enjoy a traditional meal at this unique hotel that is a true piece of American history.

Day 19: Cody - Rapid City (B)

Pass through Little Bighorn National Forest and across the plains into South Dakota to Rapid City.
Two Night Stay: Rushmore Hotel

Day 20: Rapid City - Mt Rushmore (B,D)

Visit the famous sculpture of Mt Rushmore that portrays the faces of the four famous American Presidents. Afterwards step on board a traditional 1880's steam train for a relaxing and historical journey through the Black Hills. Then visit Crazy Horse Memorial, a sculpture in memory of the famous Native American leader. Make our way back through Custer State Park which is home to large herds of Bison.

Day 21: Rapid City - New York (B)

Transfer to Rapid City Airport for your flight to New York (flight not included in land only bookings). Wonder at the concrete metropolis as you soak up the New York atmosphere.

Day 22: New York City Sightseeing (B,D)

Begin a New York City tour at the ‘Top of the Rock’ which boasts amazing 360í views of the city. Pass St Patrick’s Cathedral and Trump Tower before taking a walk in Central Park. Continue to the heart of the city, Times Square the home of Broadway. Enjoy an architectural journey passing the Chrysler Building, New York Public Library, Madison Square Garden, the Flatiron Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and the US Customs building before viewing the 9/11 memorial. You’re Invited: Tonight you will get together with your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner followed by an entertaining Broadway show. Known as the pinnacle of theatrical performance and considered to be the highest level of theatre in the world this truly is a special event that is a must do when visiting New York City.

Day 23: New York - Lancaster - Gettysburg (B,D)

Leaving the city behind we make our way through the quaint and attractive Lancaster County, home to the religious Amish and Mennonite communities who are known for their simple and traditional lives largely void of modern conveniences. You're Invited: We are joined by a local guide for a tour around the Amish countryside to learn about the culture, faith and traditional way of life. Continue to Gettysburg, one of the most historically significant towns in the United States. It was here that the Battle of Gettysburg was fought which was one of the most pivotal points in the Civil War changing the course of US history.

Day 24: Gettysburg - Washington D.C. (B,D)

This morning we walk in the footsteps of General Lee and General Meade as we head to the Gettysburg National Military Park and Museum. Gettysburg was the war's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties and it was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address". We are joined by a local guide to hear heroic and tragic stories of the war, tour the battlefields and see the greatest collection of Civil War relics. Travel the short distance to the nation’s great capital, Washington D.C. This iconic and powerful city is the centre of the US government and is home to some of the most recognisable sights and monuments in the United States.

Day 25: Washington D.C. (B)

Our local guide joins us for a city tour of this Presidential city. Hear stories of the city's past and present, its prominence and world significance as we view such highlights as the U.S. Capitol Building, the F.B.I. Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the White House and Arlington National Cemetery, site of the John F. Kennedy Memorial. Spend the remainder of the day exploring some of the many museums or historic and cultural sights.

Day 26: Washington D.C. - Shenandoah National Park (B,D)

Make our way to Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington who was America's first President and the Father of the nation. His historic plantation estate offers a chance to understand America’s first hero and the fascinating world in which he lived. Continue to the forested mountains and valleys of beautiful Shenandoah National Park. Enter the park along Skyline Drive, a meandering road that winds along the tops of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Stop at some viewpoints that afford spectacular views over the sprawling valley. With dense populations of black bears and deer, wildlife spottings are not uncommon.

Day 27: Shenandoah National Park - Williamsburg (B,D)

Continue through the state of Virginia towards the coast to some of the most historic towns that still survive today. Discover Colonial Williamsburg and immerse ourselves in the 18th century capital city of Virginia. Being steeped in history that shaped the nation, Colonial Williamsburg has been carefully constructed to recreate the buildings, scenes, shops and atmosphere of an important time in US history. Explore the revolutionary city and become a part of the recreation that brings history alive. Meet the local townspeople, tradespeople, shopkeepers, political figures and slaves and learn of their hopes, struggles, and fears in these uncertain times. Tonight dine at an historic local tavern. In the 18th century, these public houses were gathering places for residents and travellers. Get a taste of early American times with meals similar to popular dishes enjoyed by patriots like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Day 28: Williamsburg - Kill Devil Hills - New Bern (B)

Head to the coast of North Carolina and cross the Wright Memorial Bridge to the formations of the Outer Banks, a 300km long string of narrow barrier islands. The area is known for its strong and consistent winds which is why Orville and Wilbur Wright chose the place to test their flying machines. Visit the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. See a replica of their flyer and learn of the persistence and eventual world changing triumph that led to the world's first powered flight in 1903. Continue to the riverside town of New Bern.

Day 29: New Bern - Charleston (B,D)

Make our way from North to South Carolina and into the delightful southern parts of America to the city that inspired the famous dance, Charleston. Charleston is the oldest city in South Eastern USA and it exudes a rich historical charm. Known for its history and well-preserved architecture, this harbour side town has received a large number of accolades. This afternoon we will take a guided tour through Charleston's 300 year old historic district. Hear stories of the history and traditions of this gorgeous town as we make our way past mansions, gardens and churches. Wander along The Battery, a seaside promenade lined with stately homes where you can view Fort Sumter.

Day 31: Charleston - Savannah (B,D)

Head to picturesque Beaufort, a quaint southern town full of character where we will explore the notable architecture. Continue to the attractive and historic city of Savannah with its well preserved colonial architecture. Savannah contains one of the largest historic districts in the United States consisting of the original 22 blocks that were planned by the town founder James Oglethorpe. We're joined by a local guide as we uncover cobble stoned streets, oak lined alleys, exquisite southern mansions, beautiful squares and a picturesque riverfront. Tonight dine in a local restaurant that is a restored 18th Century cotton warehouse.

Day 32: Savannah (B)

Spend the day exploring the beautiful historic character of Savannah.

Continue our journey to Atlanta. A world class modern city with a rich and passionate history, Atlanta is the hub and commercial capital of Georgia. This afternoon we visit the global headquarters of CNN, one of the world leaders in news.

Day 34: Atlanta - Nashville (B,D)

Journey to Nashville the home of country music. Get a taste of the city with a walk along Honky Tonk Row. You're Invited: Take a guided tour of the Ryman Auditorium, followed by dinner and a show at the Grand Ole Opry.

Day 35: Nashville (B)

Take a tour of the recording studios of Music Row including Studio B, then visit the Country Music Hall of Fame that houses one of the best collections of country music memorabilia. Spend the rest of the day exploring Music City.

Day 36: Nashville - Memphis (B,D)

Travel to Memphis, the blues capital of the world. Visit Graceland, the home of "The King", Elvis Presley. You're Invited: Head to B.B. King Blues Club and enjoy B,B. King's favourite southern dishes as you listen to the best of Memphis music.

Day 37: Memphis (B)

Tour the famous Sun Studio, known as the birthplace of rock 'n roll. The rest of the day is free for you to discover Memphis.

Day 38: Memphis - Natchez (B,D)

Follow the great Mississippi River through the heart of a nation. Make a stop at the Grammy Museum that is dedicated to exploring music, with a focus on the deep musical roots of the Mississippi. In the evening arrive in to Natchez with a wonderful collection of antebellum architecture. You're Invited: Be hosted for dinner by the fifth and sixth generation homeowners at Glenfield Plantation.

Day 39: Natchez - New Orleans (B)

Continue to Oak Alley Plantation, an opulent and beautifully preserved antebellum mansion. The afternoon finds us in the vibrant city of New Orleans.

Day 40: New Orleans (B,D)

New Orleans is the home of Jazz. Our guide joins us for a tour of the French Quarter. See an historic cemetery, referred to as the “City of the Dead”, then visit St Charles Avenue and the Garden District. Our farewell dinner take us to an historic restaurant that offers classic Creole dishes accompanied by smooth jazz.

Day 41: Depart New Orleans (B)

After breakfast you will be transferred to New Orleans Airport for your onward flight.
