Day 1: Arrive Budapest (D)

Welcome to Budapest! You will be met and transferred from the airport to the dock. A warm welcome awaits you from your Captain and crew as you board your luxury Evergreen Tours river cruise ship. After boarding, enjoy some time at your leisure to explore Budapest. This evening join your fellow travellers for a night-time cruise along the Danube, passing under the city’s numerous bridges, whilst enjoying a traditional Hungarian welcome dinner complete with folk dancing and music.

Day 2: Budapest (B,L,D)

Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including the Royal Palace of Buda, hilltop castle complex and the Chain Bridge linking Buda and Pest. This afternoon you depart for Bratislava.

Day 3: Bratislava (B,L,D)

This morning we arrive at the city of Bratislava, capital of the Republic of Slovakia. Enjoy a sightseeing tour including the enchanting Old City with its Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin. You’re Invited: The highlight will be a home hosted afternoon tea with a local Slovakian family.

Day 4: Vienna (B,L,D)

Today we explore Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world-famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Then you have free time to sample the wonderful tastes of Vienna.

Day 5: Dürnstein - Melk (B,L,D)

In the morning we arrive in Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. Thereafter you drive through the picturesque landscape of this district to the 900-year old Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture. Emerald Active: Guided bike tour along the Danube River (active fitness level) or a guided hike to Durnstein Castle (active fitness level recommended – actual hike)

Day 6: Passau (B,L,D)

Cruise along the Danube this morning, in the afternoon we reach Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in this beautiful city. On this afternoon’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleys and see the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress from the town below. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes.

Day 7: Regensburg - Kelheim (B,L,D)

After breakfast we arrive in magnificent Regensburg. On our guided walking tour you’ll have the chance to see one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube and see the city’s architectural highlights including the Old Town Hall. You’re Invited: Tonight, enjoy a Bavarian band on board.

Day 8: Nuremberg (B,L,D)

Your included choices today include a sightseeing tour of the historic city of Nuremberg. See the storybook 900-year-old ramparts, the Imperial Castle and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946. The city tour leads you to the major sights, from the early beginnings to the present. Alternatively, journey to the Nazi party rally grounds, where rallies were held from 1933 until 1938 and take a self-guided tour of the WWII Documentation Centre. You’re Invited: This evening enjoy an EU Lecture.

Day 9: Bamberg (B,L,D)

This morning we arrive at Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Boasting one of Europe’s largest intact medieval town centres, Bamberg is bursting with original character and charm. At the centre of the town is the largest preserved old quarter in Europe.

Day 10: Würzburg (B,L,D)

Known as the “Pearl of the Romantic Road”, Würzburg is surrounded by sloping hills covered with vineyards. Join our guide for a walking tour of Würzburg followed by a visit to the Bishops’ Residenz, one of Germany’s largest and most ornate baroque palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 11: Miltenberg (B,L,D)

Travel to the picturesque village of Miltenberg on the Main River. The village creates an imitable feeling of Bavarian life in the middle ages and the Old Town is lined with well-preserved half-timbered buildings. The gothic Merchant Hall is an impressive symbol of past affluence created by trade from river traffic. Take a guided tour of Miltenberg village or join Emerald Active: A guided hike up to Wertheim Castle (active fitness level).

Day 12: Rüdesheim - Koblenz (B,L,D)

After breakfast arrive at Rüdesheim, one of Germany’s most popular towns. Enjoy free time to take the cable car up to the impressive Germania monument with stunning views of the Rhine Valley. Today’s cruising will be a highlight of your trip, as we cruise through the spectacular Rhine Gorge. We’ll pass the infamous Lorelei Rock where sailors are said to have been lured onto treacherous rocks by enchanted temptresses. In the early evening we arrive into the beautiful 2,000 year old town of Koblenz.

Day 13: Koblenz - Cologne (B,L,D)

The ship sails from Koblenz in the early morning, cruising along the Rhine we arrive in Cologne. Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities and is famous for its magnificent World-heritage listed Gothic Cathedral and market squares lined with cafes, shops and beer halls. This evening the captain will be delighted to welcome you to the Captain’s Gala Dinner.

Day 14: Cruising - Amsterdam (B,L,D)

The ship sails along the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal and into Amsterdam. This afternoon join a glass top canal boat cruise and explore Amsterdam’s maze of canals or Emerald Active: take a guided walking tour around the famous landmarks of Amsterdam. You then have free time in the afternoon to visit the Rijks Museum or Van Gogh Museum, or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere and watch the world go by. This evening join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner.

Day 15: Disembarkation - Amsterdam (B)

After breakfast, disembark the ship and transfer to your centrally located hotel and a free day at leisure in Amsterdam. Perhaps visit the Van Gogh or Rijks Museums, or visit the Flower market and stroll the shops.

Day 16: Amsterdam to Bergen (B,D)

After a leisurely morning in Amsterdam, transfer to the airport for your flight to Bergen in Norway (flight not included). Enjoy free time in the UNESCO listed Bryggen district with its colourful wharfs before boarding your Hurtigruten cruise ship and settling into your outside cabin (ask about an upgrade to a suite). Relax on board and enjoy a welcome buffet dinner this evening, before a late departure from Bergen.

Day 17: Alesund - Geraingerfjord (B,L,D)

This morning we enter the open sea for one of the few times during this voyage before arriving at the unique town of Alesund, known for its Art Noveau architecture. Later, sail into the spectacular UNESCO listed Geraingerfjord, a narrow corridor some 15km long through the coastal mountains.
It is one of Norway's most visited sights being lined with beautiful waterfalls and 800 metre steep cliffs rising directly up from the sea.

Day 18: Trondheim (B,L,D)

Discover the charming streets and peaceful harbour of Trondheim, the Viking capital of Norway. Spend the morning exploring the Bakkland District with its wooden buildings and the Old Town Bridge which dates back to 1861, then Nidaros Cathedral, Norway's largest Gothic edifice, built between 1070 and 1300. In the afternoon, the ship sets a northwest course, passing the distinct Kjeungskaer lighthouse and numerous charming islets and rocky outcrops. Pass through the narrow Stoksund before arriving at the fishing port of Rorvik.

Day 19: Arctic Circle and Lofoten Islands (B,L,D)

Today we cross the Arctic Circle between Nesna and Ornes, marked by a globe on a small islet. After a short stop at Bodo, you can enjoy the sight of the 1000m high Lofoten Wall appearing on the horizon. Tucked in between majestic granite cliffs and white sandy beaches, the Lofoten Islands are populated by small but lively fishing villages. Take an excursion (extra expense) to the Lofotr Viking Feast which takes place in an impressive reconstruction of the largest Viking house ever found.

Day 20: Tromso - Gateway to the Arctic (B,L,D)

During the night, the ship navigates the narrow Raftsund Strait before arriving at Harstad, then onto Tromso where you spend an afternoon in the city known as 'The Polar Capital'. The world's northernmost university creates a vibrant cultural scene, with busy restaurants and cafÄs as well as the Arctic Cathedral which is the city's most
famous landmark.

Day 21: Honningsvag and the North Cape (B,L,D)

After a brief stop in Hammerfest and Havoysund we arrive in Honningsvag, the gateway to the spectacular North Cape. Take an excursion to the North Cape Plateau (extra expense), at 71 degrees north, this is only 2000km from the North Pole which gives you the feeling of standing on the end of the earth. Approaching Kjollefjord we pass the rock formation Finnkirka, an ancient sacrificial site of the area's Sami people.

Day 22: Kirkenes - Disembarkation (B)

When you arrive in Kirkenes you are actually nearly in Russia and you are further east than Istanbul, with road signs written in Norwegian and Russian. You may choose to spend more time in Kirkenes and take an excursion (extra expense) such as a King Crab safari or a dog sledge safari. Extra nights are available in Kirkenes. Otherwise transfer^ to the airport for your onward or home bound flight.
