Your city tour today takes in Montjuic, the picturesque hill overlooking the city and former Jewish settlement. Visit Sagrada Familia the famous cathedral designed by Gaudi whose controversial and intricate design is reflected in much of Barcelona’s architecture. Stroll the famous corridor of Las Ramblas where street performers feature on every corner, then through the old town with its twisting lanes and historic buildings. The rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner tonight will be at a typical ‘Masia’ restaurant.
Enjoy a full day at leisure today. Your Tour Director will be on hand to assist you in planning your day. Perhaps visit the Bullring, the magnificent Noucamp stadium, or relax along the waterfront area.

Journey by high speed train to Madrid, then transfer to your centrally located hotel. Your sightseeing tour includes the Sabatini Gardens and the 18th century Royal Palace of Madrid as well as an orientation tour of the downtown Austrian quarter featuring the impressive Plaza Major, a grand square re-modelled in the 16th century. Tonight enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant.

Travel south and visit Consuegra which is famous for the best examples of Spanish windmills and the home of the Spanish knights. Arrive in Cordoba a city known for its blend of Jewish and Moorish influences.

Your morning guided tour takes in the Aljama Mosque one of the most emblematic examples of Islamic Art which famously features a Christian cathedral inside it. After free time for lunch, continue onto Granada and enjoy a walking orientation of the city centre and a free evening.

Granada is home to the impressive Alhambra Palace, one of Spain’s most recognisable Moorish structures completed in the 14th century when Spain was largely occupied by Muslim invaders from North Africa. Visit this impressive UNESCO World Heritage site. En route to Malaga You’re Invited to a home hosted lunch in Alfarnatejo a typical Andalusian village. Continue to Malaga, the capital of the ‘Costa del Sol’.

This morning take a guided walking tour of Malaga seeing the Alcazaba Walls and Gibralfaro Castle. Visit the Museum of Arts located in a historical building showcasing local traditions. This afternoon and evening are at leisure to go to the beach, stroll the shops and promenade and just relax.
The rock of Gibraltar is a territory of the United Kingdom that sits at the mouth of the Mediterranean at the very foot of Spain. For many centuries it has been an important strategic port for the British Navy, and the sovereignty rights of its inhabitants have been carefully protected till the present day. Visit the Rock which is home to Barbary Apes and diverse birdlife as well as the old town dotted with traditional English pubs. Continue onto Seville and check into your hotel where dinner is included in a local restaurant.

Seville is the capital of Andalucia. Visit the Alcazar and see the impressive 15th Century Cathedral built on the site of the former mosque, incorporating the famous Bell Tower as part of its structure. Wander the windy laneways of the old town then visit Seville’s wonderful Plaza de Espana.

Travel through the Aracena mountain range into Portugal. Arrive in the capital Lisbon in the afternoon and settle into your centrally located hotel where a sumptuous dinner is included.

Join your local guide for a city tour of this fascinating city, one of the oldest in Europe. Visit the impressive Belem Tower and see the Monument to the Discoverers which celebrates Portugal’s standing as one of the great exploring kingdoms of Europe. Enjoy a tasting of local pastries and a visit to Jeronimos Monastery then the rest of the day is at leisure to explore the old town or visit the famous castle.

Travel north along the Atlantic coast and visit the country’s historic capital of Coimbra en route to Porto. Embark on your Emerald Waterways river cruise ship and be welcomed by your captain and crew as you settle into your stateroom or suite. Tonight enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board while cruising past the illuminations of Porto.
Today enjoy a full day sailing the windy turns and twists of the Douro Valley. A UNESCO world heritage site this area is sparsely populated by small quaint villages and typical communities working vineyards and small farms. Your Cruise Director will host a lecture on board showcasing the history and wine culture of the region. Perhaps join a painting class of local mosaic tiles which typically depict traditional motives. Later this afternoon arrive in the village of Pinhao which is situated on a river bend surrounded by terraced hillsides producing some of the world’s best Port. Tonight your captain will be delighted to host the welcome dinner and cocktail reception.
Today visit the marvelous baroque village of Lamego, where history stands still. Visit the remains of a Roman sanctuary and battlements. Return to your ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing to Vega de Teron, your gateway into Spain. You’re Invited: Join your barman for a lesson on how to make cocktails using port wine on board.
Founded in Roman times, the city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, the seat of the Spanish language, and still a lively student town. With its grand squares and medieval structures, a walking tour here is more like stepping back in time. Tapas bars feature on every street and traditional Spanish music trickles out of buzzing bars and restaurants. You will enjoy a full day in this beautiful golden city with plenty of free time to explore independently. Upon returning to your ship from Salamanca, you will be invited to enjoy a BBQ dinner on the Terrace alongside your fellow guests.
This morning arrive in the picturesque village of Pocinho and embark on an excursion to the Coa Valley Museum. This impressive concrete structure details pre-historic stone carvings made by the early inhabitants of the Douro, which were uncovered during the construction of the nearby dam. Later return to your ship for lunch and enjoy your idyllic surroundings as you sail towards Regua. You’re Invited: This evening dinner will be hosted at a local winery estate.
Wake up this morning in the former roman settlement of Regua. Visit the Douro Museum for a look at wine making in the region.

Located at the mouth of the Douro River, Porto is a fascinating eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. Its most famous export is of course fortified wine, and the hillside across from the city centre features numerous wine caves and tasting boutiques in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia. Sample the local fair in one of these specially adapted wine cellars and learn about the long adapted craft of creating port.
