Day 1: Florence (D)

Welcome to Tuscany. You will be met at Florence International Airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Tonight enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your Tour Director and fellow travellers.

Day 2: Florence (B)

Meet your local guide this morning for a guided walking tour of Florence. See the Duomo with its spectacular exterior of marble panels. Also see Giotto’s Belltower, Brunelleschi’s Dome and Ghiberties ‘Gates of Paradise’ before continuing onto the Academy of Fine Arts to admire the Statue of David by Michelangelo. Enjoy time at leisure for the rest of the day to shop for leather and stroll the tiny laneways of the city.

Day 3: Pisa - San Gimignano (B,D)

After a leisurely morning in Florence for some last minute shopping, board your coach for the journey to the Tuscan coastline and the once maritime city of Pisa where we visit the Square of Miracles with its classic cathedral and see the famous leaning bell tower. Later head into the Tuscan hills to San Gimignano and check into your hotel with views of the surrounding countryside. Dinner is included in the hotel.

Day 4: Siena - San Gimignano (B,D)

After breakfast it’s a short drive to Siena, the former capital of Tuscany, still standing as a medieval showcase of Tuscan architecture. Admire the interior of the Cathedral, with the Piccolomini Library, then proceed to the Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Enjoy free time for lunch and to further explore. Later, travel back to the medieval hilltop village of San Gimignano famous for its many intact towers that have stood since the middle ages. Perhaps try some of the town’s famous cured wild boar as you stroll the many shops and enjoy the stunning views of the Tuscan countryside from the town’s elevated view points. You’re Invited: Dinner hosted by a local family at a traditional farmhouse.

Day 5: Montepulciano & Assisi (B,D)

Visit the fascinating hill top town of Montepulciano, surrounded by massive fortifications still in place, then travel onto the mystical town of Assisi, perched on Mount Subiaso overlooking Perugia and the surrounding countryside. Your guided walking tour includes the Basilica of St Francis along with other historic landmarks.

Day 6: Assisi - Milan (B,L)

Travel north to the town of Modena where we visit the Balsamic Vinegar ‘Fattoria’ and learn all about its production over an included lunch. Then continue north to the vibrant city of Milan famous for fashion and lifestyle, nestled at the foot of the Italian Alps.

Day 7: Milan (B,D)

Join your local guide for a city tour of Milan, Italy’s smartest and most dynamic city. See the magnificent Duomo, the 3rd largest church in Europe, the Opera House and the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. Later perhaps indulge in some shopping at the ‘Quadrilatero della Moda’ Milan’s high fashion district known for its fashion industry, the city boasts many of Italy's famous brands. Dinner tonight is included in your hotel.

Day 8: Milan - Basel (B,D)

This morning travel north through the beautiful European Alps, passing through numerous tunnels and mountain passes. Stop for lunch in the lakeside town of Lucerne before arriving in Basel. A warm welcome awaits you from your Captain and crew as you board your Evergreen Tours river cruise ship. After boarding, enjoy some free time to get acquainted with your ship. This evening join your fellow travellers for a cocktail reception followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 9: Breisach (B,L,D)

The beautiful Black Forest region of Germany has long been a fairy tale destination. Arrive in Breisach and enjoy free time in the village or on board. Commence your magical morning with the Vogtsbauernhof Museum, an open air exhibition of sixteenth century life, featuring a number of reconstructed Black Forest farms. You’re Invited: A typical Gasthof owned by a local family with a presentation and tasting of Black Forest gateau

Day 10: Strasbourg (B,L,D)

This morning take a guided walking tour of Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region in northeastern France and seat of the European Parliament. Visit La Petit France, home to some of Strasbourg’s prettiest and most photogenic streets and buildings with half-timbered townhouses leaning out over the narrow cobbled streets. This afternoon is at leisure to explore the town or relax onboard.

Day 11: Mannheim (B,L,D)

Continue to the town of Mannheim, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers. Take an excursion to the medieval town of Heidelberg including a visit to the impressive castle which overlooks the town. Enjoy free time there before returning to the ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing.

Day 12: Koblenz (B,L,D)

Cruise to the 2000 year old town of Koblenz, which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Visit the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite side of the river, part of the Prussian defences against the French in the 19th century, and later used as a headquarters for the American military during WWII. Enjoy free time to wander through the town and take in the views. In the afternoon, sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge, passing countless castles and vineyards as well as the infamous Lorelei statue and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, which was built on an island in the middle of the river as a medieval toll station. Countless vineyards and medieval castles line the shores of this section of the river, with photo opportunities at every bend. Emerald Active: Cycle along the river banks.

Day 13: Cologne (B,L,D)

Welcome to Cologne. Founded by the Romans, the city is one of Germany's oldest and is famous for its magnificent World-Heritage listed Gothic Cathedral. Join your local guide for an included tour of the Old Town, with its beautiful squares and historic monuments, with free time for exploring. Cologne is one of Germany's largest and most modern cities largely due to a rebuilding plan post WWII, and it has many different museums and galleries including a Roman artefact museum. After lunch, relax onboard as we cruise along the Rhine River. This evening the Captain will be delighted to host a gala dinner.

Day 14: Amsterdam - Cruising (B,L,D)

The ship sails along the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal and into Amsterdam. This afternoon join a glass top canal boat cruise and explore Amsterdam’s maze of canals or join Emerald Active for a guided walking tour around the famous landmarks of Amsterdam. You then have free time in the afternoon to visit the Rijks Museum or Van Gogh Museum, or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere and watch the world go by. This evening join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner.

Day 15: Disembarkation Amsterdam (B)

After breakfast, farewell new found friends and transfer to the airport for your onwards or homebound flight.
