In 1980, Evergreen Cruises & Tours (then was known as Evergreen Tours) started in Victoria, Australia with tours to Tasmania and other parts of Australia. One of the first Tasmania brochures had a "scratch-and-sniff" apple on the front cover. In 1988, Evergreen was purchased by the Scenic Group. This then opened up the world to more touring destinations and gave Evergreen great buying strength and the ability to pass on greater value.
In 2000, Evergreen started touring Canada & Alaska and now is one of the most successful companies out of Australia to Canada. In 2015, we sent a record number of travellers and our average customer satisfaction rating was 95%.
Listening to our clients and where they wanted to discover next, in 2008 Evergreen chartered ships on the European Rivers with independent ship partners. Our clients then wanted to venture further in the world and Evergreen started touring in South America and Africa in 2010. Now South America is Evergreen's fastest growing touring and now links with Chilean fjord and Antarctica cruising.
While we appreciated our chartered ships in Europe, we were getting feedback on how we could build a better ship that included a pool and cinema. So Emerald 'Star Ships' were born. We took all our clients' feedback and built two beautiful new Emerald 'Star Ships', the Emerald Sky and the Emerald Star and as we say they are “where innovation meets indulgence”. These ships were so good they were awarded by Cruise Critic “Best new river ships for 2014” on the first year of sailing. Testament to this fantastic design, early success and increasing demand, we’ve built four more 'Star Ships', the Emerald Sun and the Emerald Dawn in 2015. And then we launched Emerald Destiny & Emerald Liberte in 2017.
Always listening to our clients, we read and heard they wanted to go river cruising on the Mekong. This year, we are launching the Emerald Harmony, the newest ship on the Mekong, and the only one that can sail right into the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.
Evergreen is one of the oldest leading Australian owned cruise and touring companies helping over 80,000 Australians to Discover the World for the past 39 years.
