  • Day 1 Arrival Zurich - Basel

    Welcome to Switzerland, today you will travel from Zurich airport to the Rhine–side town of Basel, the centre of the country’s pharmaceutical industry. A warm welcome awaits you from your Captain and crew as you board your Emerald Waterways luxury river cruise ship. This evening join your fellow travellers for dinner on board. Your Cruise Director will also conduct a port talk to review the activities and itinerary for the days ahead. Please book flights to arrive into Zurich prior to 13:30.

  • Day 2 Breisach

    Today you have a choice to commence your magical morning with a visit to the Vogtsbauernhof Museum, an open air exhibition of sixteenth century life, featuring a number of reconstructed Black Forest farms. Alternatively, take part in the Emerald Active hike.

  • Day 3 Kehl - Strasbourg

    Once docked in Kehl you will be transferred by coach across the river to Strasbourg, the capital city of the Alsace Region in France. Your guided walking tour will include the Grande Ile, the historical city centre and UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its medieval black and white timber framed buildings, old tanning houses, baroque sandstones buildings, canals and river locks. Your afternoon is free to continuing exploring Strasbourg.

  • Day 4 Mannheim – Heidelberg

    Continue downstream to the town of Mannheim, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers. There you will visit the medieval town of Heidelberg including the impressive castle which overlooks the town. Enjoy free time there before returning to the ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing.

  • Day 5 Koblenz

    Cruise to the 2000 year old town of Koblenz, which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Visit the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite side of the river. This fortress was part of the Prussian defences against the French in the 19th century and later used as a headquarters for the American military during WWII.

  • Day 6 Cologne

    Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany's oldest and is famous for its magnificent World–Heritage listed Gothic Cathedral. Join your local guide for an included tour of the Old Town, with free time for exploring. Cologne is one of Germany's largest and most modern cities largely due to a rebuilding plan post WWII, and it has many different museums and galleries including a Roman artefact museum. This evening join your Captain for a farewell reception and dinner.

  • Day 7 Amsterdam

    This morning you can decide to either enjoy a glass top canal boat tour through Amsterdam’s canal or a guided bike tour.

  • Day 8 Amsterdam – London (Dover)

    After breakfast, disembark your river cruise ship and transfer to the airport for your morning flight to London Heathrow Airport (flight not included) and transfer to Dover Cruise Terminal. A warm welcome awaits from the Captain and crew of the Holland America Line MS Prinsendam as you settle into your Ocean View Stateroom, with an evening departure and your first night’s dinner on board.

  • Day 9 St. Peter Port, Guernsey

    With its cobbled streets and picturesque seafront marina and historic gardens, its easy to see why St. Peter Port is considered one of Europe’s prettiest harbour towns. Castle Cornet has stood guard over the town for 800 years. Once cut off by the tide, it now provides a spectacular backdrop to the town as well as staging theatre productions and musical events. St. Peter Port’s centrepiece is its beautiful church, which is believed to be the closest church to a pub in the British Isles. Enjoy a full day to explore Guernsey’s capital.

  • Day 10 Fowey, United Kingdom

    Arrive into Fowey, a small harbour front town at the mouth of the River Fowey in south Cornwall. Walk the narrow streets of the old town where medieval and Georgian buildings cast shadows over each other and bring to life a vibrant maritime history. Enjoy the whole day free to explore the town, or join one of the shore excursions offered on board from the available programme.

  • Day 11 St. Marys – Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom

    St. Mary’s is the largest and most populous island of the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the southwest cost of Cornwall in England. The coastline features large stretches of deserted white sandy beaches, dramatic rocky coves, stunning seascapes, amazing archaeological sites, beautiful walks and scenery along miles of coastal and country paths and nature trails.

  • Day 12 Bristol (Bath), United Kingdom

    The city of Bristol straddles the River Avon in the southwest of England with a prosperous maritime history. Its former city-centre port is now a cultural hub. The harbour’s 19th-century warehouses now contain restaurants, shops and cultural institutions such as contemporary art gallery The Arnolfini.

  • Day 13 At Sea

    Sail north through the Irish Sea separating Ireland and the island of Great Britain. Spend the day at sea and enjoy the facilities onboard.

  • Day 14 Killybegs, Ireland

    Sail into Killybegs, a town in County Donegal , Ireland and home to the largest fishing port in Ireland thanks to its natural deepwater harbour. Enjoy time at leisure or perhaps join a shore excursion to Donegal. Until the early 17th century, Donegal was the capital of Tyrconnell, a Gaelic kingdom controlled by the O’Donnell dynasty and also features archaeological evidence for settlements around the town dating to prehistoric times, including the remains of ringforts and other defensive earthworks.

  • Day 15 Galway, Ireland

    Sitting where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean is the harbour city of Galway. During your free time visit St. Nicolas Cathedral, the Spanish Arch and Eyre Square; an 18th century popular meeting spot surrounded by ships and traditional pubs that often offer live Irish folk music. Nearby, stone-clad cafes, boutiques and art galleries line the winding lanes of the Latin Quarter which retains portions of the medieval city walls.

  • Day 16 Bantry, Ireland

    The past, present and future fuse in perfect unison in the town of Bantry, nestled at the head of beautiful ancient Bantry Bay. With a history stretching back to Neolithic times when humans left their first imprints here in places like Killnaruane, through the commercial fisheries of the 19th and early 20th centuries, to the busy modern cosmopolitan town with its fusion of modern and traditional streetscapes, Bantry offers delights for all the senses.

  • Day 17 Waterford, Ireland

    Founded by the Vikings in 914 A.D, the seaport of Waterford in southeast Ireland is the country’s oldest city and home to famed glass manufacturer Waterford Crystal, founded in 1783. Waterford City, steeped in history, heritage and culture represents a unique blend of modern shopping centres, traditional pubs and highly acclaimed gourmet restaurants. Enjoy time at leisure to explore or join an optional shore excursion from a programme available on board.

  • Day 18 At Sea

    Cruise the Celtic Sea and English Channel through the Strait of Dover. Enjoy the facilities onboard your Holland America Line ocean cruise ship. Perhaps indulge in a massage, relax by the pool or take part in one of the many activities available.

  • Day 19 Zeebrugge (Brussels), Belgium

    With its picturesque canals, cobblestone streets and fairy-tale gabled houses, it’s possible to believe Bruges may have been custom built just to charm visitors. Once a mercantile centre that dominated all of Western Europe under the powerful Dukes of Burgundy, priceless art and medieval architecture is tightly packed within the city’s moatlike ring of waterways. Bruges is famous for its sweet tooth, with numerous chocolate shops and sidewalk vendors selling hot-off-the-iron waffles topped with whipped cream.

  • Day 20 Vlissingen – Scheldt River, Netherlands

    Strategically positioned between the Scheldt River and the North Sea, Vlissingen has been an important harbour for more than ten centuries. Once a main harbour for ships of the Dutch East India Company, today Vlissingen builds ships for the Royal Netherlands Navy. In your free time, discover 15th through 20th century maritime history at the Zeeuws Maritiem MuZEEum, take in the harbour views from a 16th century prison tower, or spend the day relaxing on Vlissengen’s beautiful beach. This afternoon enjoy sailing the Scheldt River.

  • Day 21 Brussels (Antwerp), Belgium

    Antwerp is a city of many different faces: international diamond hub, emerging fashion centre and a home of the painter Peter Paul Rubens. A day in Antwerp offers the chance to explore all this and more, with walks and window-shopping through the Fashion and Diamond Districts and a perfect opportunity
    to sample the flavours of Belgium along the way, from sugar dusted Belgian waffles right from the irons of Antwerp’s oldest waffle ship to innovative, modern twists on chocolate from famed Belgian confectionaries. Perhaps join an optional shore excursion to discover the secrets of Belgium’s beer-brewing traditions.
