  • Day 1 Arrival Lyon

    Welcome to Lyon. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the ship where you will be welcomed by your Captain and crew. Tonight enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board.

  • Day 2 Lyon

    Lyon is France’s third largest city, a former Roman capital positioned at the conference of the Rhone and Saone rivers, which is steeped in history. Today be part of the guided tour of Lyon, which starts with a drive to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, Lyon’s hilltop church, with stunning views over the town. Then pass by the recently re–discovered Roman amphitheatre and walk through the cobbled streets of the gastronomic old town including the secret laneways. This evening sail north through the beautiful Beaujolais region.

  • Day 3 Chalon-Sur-Saone – Beaune

    Chalon–Sur–Saone is best known as the birthplace of photography and the center of Burgundy’s wine region. Travel by road to the quaint village of Beaune, where we visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth–century architecture. Marvel at the multi–colored roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Return to the ship for lunch, and then depart this afternoon for Macon arriving in the evening.

  • Day 4 Macon

    Arrive in Macon, another important wine region and gateway to the Beaujolais vineyards. Your walking tour includes the sights of the General Hospital buildings, half–timbered houses and the Soufflot Chapel. Macon is a great destination to try some local wines at the many tasting displays in the town. Enjoy time at leisure in the afternoon.

  • Day 5 Tournon

    Join your local guide for a walking tour of Tournon, which is dominated by the 16th century castle and roman ruins, and is nestled in the valley near the steep slopes of le Massif Central, France's 3rd largest mountain range. The area has a long tradition in wine making, including the renowned wine growing centre of Tain l'Hermitage across the river.

  • Day 6 Avignon

    Avignon has a rich history from Celtic beginnings to being the residence of the Popes and later central to the French Revolution. Although a fortified town, it is the Papal Palace which stands more secure on a hill in the centre of town; its walls are 17–18 feet thick. Your walk with a local guide takes you through this historic centre with its cobbled laneways and shops, overlooking the famous 'Pont d’Avignon'. The rest of the day is at leisure.

  • Day 7 Arles

    Sail into the Camargue wilderness region to the capital of Provence, Arles where you will join your local guide for a walking tour showcasing the highlights of the city in particular the exterior of the 2000 year old Roman Amphitheatre still in use today, which was originally built to hold 20,000 spectators in the style of the Colosseum in Rome. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax on board and explore Arles further.

  • Day 8 Disembark Arles – Marseille

    After breakfast disembark the Emerald Liberté and transfer to Marseille, a port city of the Provençal coastline and France’s second largest city and long-time crossroads of immigration and trade since its founding by the Greeks circa 600 B.C. A warm welcome awaits as you board the MSC Seaview at the cruise terminal and settle into your Ocean View cabin with an evening departure and your first night’s dinner on board.

  • Day 9 Genoa, Italy

    Wandering the narrow caruggi alleyways of Genoa is a bit like solving a medieval labyrinth. In the heart of the Italian port city lies Piazza de Ferrari, a main square with a beautiful fountain and a perimeter lined with historic buildings, including the Palace of the Doges the Teatro Carlo Felice, which was destroyed during WWII and subsequently rebuilt. Enjoy the whole day free to explore the city, or join one of the shore excursions offered on board as part of a programme available. Perhaps take an optional excursion to Portofino, a charming old fishing port and popular holiday destination on the Italian Riviera or discover Genoa by Segway.

  • Day 10 Naples, Italy

    Naples, a city in southern Italy, sits on the Bay of Naples. Nearby is Mount Vesuvius, the still-active volcano that destroyed nearby Roman town Pompeii. Dating to the 2nd millennium B.C., Naples has centuries of important art and architecture. The city’s cathedral, the Duomo di San Gennaro, is filled with frescoes. Other major landmarks include the lavish Royal Palace and Castel Nuovo, a 13th-century castle. Enjoy a full day to explore Naples or join an optional excursion available on board. An archaeological tour to Pompeii, a guided walking tour to the crater of Mount Vesuvius or a tour of the beautiful island of Capri are just some of the options available.

  • Day 11 Messina, Italy

    Messina is a harbor city in northeast Sicily, separated from mainland Italy by the Strait of Messina. It’s known for the Norman Messina Cathedral, with its Gothic portal, 15th-century windows and an astronomical clock on the bell tower. Nearby are marble fountains decorated with mythological figures, like the Fontana di Orione, with its carved inscriptions, and the Neptune Fountain, topped by a statue of the sea god. Enjoy a full day to explore Messina, relax on board or perhaps join an optional excursion available on board to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest volcano reaching almost 3,300m above sea level.

  • Day 12 Valletta, Malta

    Valletta is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It is known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John’s Co-Cathedral, whose opulent interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece “The Beheading of Saint John.”

    Spend the day at sea as you sail North-West crossing the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy the facilities on board.

  • Day 14 Barcelona, Spain

    Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, is known for its art and architecture. The fantastical Sagrada Família church and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí dot the city. Choose from a range of optional shore excursions available to purchase on board, explore the city at your leisure or relax on board.

  • Day 15 Disembarkation Marseille

    Bid a fond farewell to your Captain and crew as your disembark your MSC cruise in Marseille. Transfer to the airport for your onward or homebound flight.
