    Welcome to Paris. You will be met at Charles de Gaulle International Airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel. This evening meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers for a welcome drink at your hotel.

  • Day 2 Paris

    A sightseeing tour with a local guide takes you to see Notre Dame Cathedral, famous for the tale of Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame. See the Obelisk in the centre of the Place de la Concorde and drive along the elegant Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. Enjoy a sightseeing cruise on the River Seine finishing at the Eiffel Tower. This tour will give you an excellent overview of the city. Enjoy the afternoon and evening at leisure to explore this romantic city.

  • Day 3 Paris – Rouen

    Today we visit the Somme Valley, north of Paris, where the Battle of the Somme was staged in WW1, claiming the lives of more than 150,000 soldiers from Britain and The Commonwealth. We will visit the Crater at la Boiselle, followed by a visit to the Thiepval Memorial, which has the names of over 72,000 men lost in the battles engraved on its walls, then the Bullecourt ‘Digger’ Statue and later the Australian Museum at Villers-Bretonneux, before continuing onto the charming medieval town of Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1413.

  • Day 4 Rouen – Rennes

    Travel onto the Normandy coastline to visit Pegasus Bridge, have some free time in Arromanches, see the WWII landing sites at Omaha Beach and the bunkers and range memorial at Pointe du Hoc. The magnificent hilltop abbey of Mont St. Michel, will be one of the highlights of your tour. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this fascinating village, before continuing onto your hotel in Rennes.

  • Day 5 Rennes – Nantes

    This morning enjoy free time at leisure to explore Rennes, with its ancient fortifications, some dating back to the 3rd century AD. In the afternoon, drive south to the Loire Valley, visiting one of the famous Chateau, before reaching your hotel in the lively city of Nantes. Tonight enjoy dinner in your hotel.

  • Day 6 Loire Valley

    Today enjoy a full day touring through the beautiful Loire Valley with visits to several Chateaux, such as the Chateau de Sammur, Chateau de Plessis-Bourre and Chateau Amboisse. French kings during the Renaissance period and their nobles built magnificent estates throughout the region, most of them nestled along the Loire River.

  • Day 7 Nantes – Limoges

    This morning enjoy some free time in Nantes, before heading south to Limoges in the Lake District of France. On the way stop for a while in the ghost town of Oradour-sur Glane, which stands untouched since it was completely destroyed by the German Waffen SS in June 1944!

  • Day 8 Limoges – Clermont-Ferrand

    Today, drive through stunning scenery skirting along the Massif Central mountain range, passing countless lakes and quaint villages before arriving at the scenic city of Clermont-Ferrand flanked by an extinct volcano and enjoy dinner in your hotel.

  • Day 9 Clermont-Ferrand – Lyon

    After a relaxing morning continue onto Lyon, where a warm welcome awaits you from your Captain and crew as you board your luxury Emerald Waterways river cruise ship. Tonight enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board.

  • Day 10 Lyon

    Lyon is France’s third largest city, a former Roman capital positioned at the conference of the Rhone and Saone rivers, which is steeped in history. Today be part of the guided tour of Lyon, which starts with a drive to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, Lyon’s hilltop church, with stunning views over the town. Then pass by the recently re–discovered Roman amphitheatre and walk through the cobbled streets of the gastronomic old town including the secret laneways. This evening sail north through the beautiful Beaujolais region.

  • Day 11 Chalon-Sur-Saone – Beaune

    Chalon–Sur–Saone is best known as the birthplace of photography and the center of Burgundy’s wine region. Travel by road to the quaint village of Beaune, where we visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth–century architecture. Marvel at the multi–colored roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Return to the ship for lunch, and then depart this afternoon for Macon arriving in the evening.

  • Day 12 Macon

    Arrive in Macon, another important wine region and gateway to the Beaujolais vineyards. Your walking tour includes the sights of the General Hospital buildings, half–timbered houses and the Soufflot Chapel. Macon is a great destination to try some local wines at the many tasting displays in the town. Enjoy time at leisure in the afternoon.

  • Day 13 Tournon

    Join your local guide for a walking tour of Tournon, which is dominated by the 16th century castle and roman ruins, and is nestled in the valley near the steep slopes of le Massif Central, France's 3rd largest mountain range. The area has a long tradition in wine making, including the renowned wine growing centre of Tain l'Hermitage across the river.

  • Day 14 Avignon

    Avignon has a rich history from Celtic beginnings to being the residence of the Popes and later central to the French Revolution. Although a fortified town, it is the Papal Palace which stands more secure on a hill in the centre of town; its walls are 17–18 feet thick. Your walk with a local guide takes you through this historic centre with its cobbled laneways and shops, overlooking the famous 'Pont d’Avignon'. The rest of the day is at leisure.

  • Day 15 Arles

    Sail into the Camargue wilderness region to the capital of Provence, Arles where you will join your local guide for a walking tour showcasing the highlights of the city in particular the exterior of the 2000 year old Roman Amphitheatre still in use today, which was originally built to hold 20,000 spectators in the style of the Colosseum in Rome. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax on board and explore Arles further.

  • Day 16 Arles Disembarkation - Nice

    After breakfast disembark your river cruise ship in Arles, transfer to Nice airport for your onward or homebound flight. Please book your flights to depart between 11am and 4pm if flying out of Marseille and after 1pm if flying out of Nice.
