    Welcome to Budapest! You will be met and transferred from the airport to your Emerald Waterways luxury river cruise ship. After boarding, enjoy some time at your leisure to explore Budapest. This evening join your fellow travellers for a night–time cruise along the Danube, passing under the city’s numerous bridges, whilst enjoying a traditional Hungarian welcome dinner complete with folk dancing and music.

  • Day 2 Budapest

    Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including the Hungarian Parliament Building, the Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge linking Buda and Pest or an exciting hike on the Buda Hill. This afternoon you depart for Bratislava.

  • Day 3 Bratislava

    This morning we arrive at the city of Bratislava, capital of the Republic of Slovakia. Enjoy a sightseeing tour including the enchanting Old City with its Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin.

  • Day 4 Vienna

    Today you have a choice of either exploring Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world–famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Alternatively, join the guided bike tour instead of the drive around and guided walk. Then you have free time to sample the wonderful tastes of Vienna.

  • Day 5 Durnstein - Melk

    In the morning we arrive in Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. Thereafter you drive through the picturesque landscape of this district to the 900–year old Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture.

  • Day 6 Passau

    Cruise along the Danube this morning, in the afternoon we reach Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in this beautiful city. On this afternoon’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleys and see the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress from the town below. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes.

  • Day 7 Regensburg - Kelheim

    After breakfast we arrive in magnificent Regensburg. On our guided walking tour you’ll have the chance to see one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube and see the city’s architectural highlights including the Old Town Hall.

  • Day 8 Nuremberg

    Today you will have a sightseeing coach tour of the historic city of Nuremberg. Your coach tour would pass by the 900-year-old ramparts, the Imperial Castle and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946. You will also get the chance to pass by the Nazi party rally grounds, where rallies were held from 1933 until 1938. Afterwards take a self-guided tour of the WWII Documentation Centre or instead enjoy free time in the city centre.

  • Day 9 Bamberg

    This morning we arrive at Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Boasting one of Europe’s largest intact medieval town centres, Bamberg is bursting with original character and charm. At the centre of the town is the largest preserved old quarter in Europe.

  • Day 10 Wurzburg

    Known as the “Pearl of the Romantic Road”, Wurzburg is surrounded by sloping hills covered with vineyards. Join our guide for a walking tour of Wurzburg followed by a visit to the Bishops’ Residenz, one of Germany’s largest and most ornate baroque palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your tour highlights the palace’s unique staircase, elaborate 18th century frescoes and the amazing 3–dimensional stuccowork.

  • Day 11 Wertheim - Miltenberg

    Today we start from the stunning medieval glass-blowing town of Wertheim, where you have the opportunity to explore on your own. Then, travel by coach to the picturesque village of Miltenberg on the Main River. The village creates an imitable feeling of Bavarian life in the middle ages and the Old Town is lined with well–preserved half–timbered buildings. The gothic Merchant Hall is an impressive symbol of past affluence created by trade from river traffic. After your guided tour enjoy free time until the ship arrives.

  • Day 12 Rudesheim- Koblenz

    After breakfast arrive in Rüdesheim, one of Germany’s most popular towns. You will either have a choice of visiting the Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum or if you feel active take a guided hike to a local winery. In your free time, continue exploring and perhaps taste the famous “Rudesheimer Coffee”, made with Germany’s most famous brandy Asbach Uralt. After lunch, the ships will sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge. We will pass the infamous Lorelei Rock where sailors are said to have been lured onto treacherous rocks by enchanted temptresses. In the early evening we arrive into the beautiful 2,000 year old town of Koblenz.

  • Day 13 Cologne

    The ship sails from Koblenz in the early morning, cruising along the Rhine we arrive in Cologne. Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities and is famous for its magnificent World–heritage listed Gothic Cathedral and market squares lined with cafes, shops and beer halls. This evening the captain will be delighted to welcome you to the Captain’s Farewell Gala Dinner.

  • Day 14 Amsterdam

    The ship sails along the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal and into Amsterdam. This morning you can decide to either enjoy a glass top canal boat tour through Amsterdam’s canal or a guided bike tour. For those on the canal cruise, afterwards continue with an orientation walk followed by free time, to visit some other famous attractions, such as the Rijks or Van Gogh Museums, or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere and watch the world go by.

  • Day 15 Amsterdam

    After breakfast, disembark your Emerald Star-Ship before boarding your new home for the next fourteen nights, the Holland America Line MS Prinsendam. A warm welcome awaits from your ship’s crew as you settle into your Ocean View Stateroom, with an evening departure and your first night’s dinner onboard.

  • Day 16 At Sea

    Today is the perfect opportunity to explore the ship as you sail the North Sea from the Netherlands towards Norway. Presentations and special performances feature each day on board and your Cruise Director is on hand to assist you. A programme of optional shore excursions is available to many of the ports visited in the days ahead and can be organised by your ship travel desk on board.

  • Day 17 Ålesund, Norway

    Ålsend, a quaint fishing town in western Norway has been called Norway’s most beautiful city. A fire in 1904 destroyed much of it, resulting in the town being rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style – also known as Jugendstil – that was popular around the turn of the 20th century. A year after the fire, Norway gained its independence from Sweden, which led to a campaign to build a “Norwegian town” to mark the creation of the new nation. The colorful buildings feature castlelike turrets and spires with intricate facades of ornamental flowers, gargoyles and Viking-inspired decorations.

  • Day 18 Trondheim, Norway

    Welcome to Trondheim, Norway’s Viking capital. The compact city centre, enclosed by the Nedelva River is easy to get around on foot. The medieval Gothic grandeur of the Nidaros Cathedral is a must-see, as is the historic riverside Bakklandet neighbourhood just a few steps away. Music lovers will feel right at home with the Rockheim and Ringve museums chronicling the importance of music to the city’s past, while vinyl stores and basement bars showcase the present.

  • Day 19 Crossing the Arctic Circle

    Today continue sailing north as you cross the Arctic Circle. Late June see’s the Midnight Sun shine regularly as a natural phenomenon occurs in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle when the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Like a prolonged sunset and sunrise all at once, the midnight sun colours the beautiful Norwegian coast in a reddish yellow light.

  • Day 20 Cruising the North Cape – Honningsvåg

    Welcome to the northernmost point of continental Europe, the North Cape. Relax onboard this morning as you cruise through never-ending daylight far above the Arctic Circle and into Honningsvåg. Amidst its colourful buildings, Honningsvåg has a lively cultural life powered by local spirit and an economy driven by shipping through the Barents Sea. Be sure to stop by the statue of Bamse, the Saint Bernard dog that became the mascot of the Free Norwegian Forces during World War II. Today is an excellent opportunity to join an optional shore excursion such as an ATV adventure, fish for Giant King Crab or bird watching on Stappen Island.   • Day 21 Kirkenes, Norway

    When you arrive in Kirkenes you are actually a mere 15 kilometres from the Russian border and further east than Istanbul, with road signs written in Norwegian and Russia with a distinct frontier feel. Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore.

  • Day 22 Hammerfest, Norway

    In keeping with much of northern Norway, the natural setting of Hammerfest is simply stunning with everything from alpine terrain to delicate shorelines. The midnight sun lights up the fjords, islands and skerries no matter what time of day. Settled because of its natural harbour, Hammerfest has a long history of maritime activity. Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore or join an optional excursion available from the travel desk on board.

  • Day 23 Tromsø, Norway

    As the largest city for hundreds of miles in any direction, Tromsø is the cultural heart of northern Norway. Situated on a small island surrounded by mountains, Tromsø is one of Norway’s most picturesque cities. The world’s northernmost university creates a vibrant cultural scene, with busy restaurants and cafes as well as the Arctic Cathedral which is the city’s most famous landmark. Today you have a full day at leisure to enjoy the city known as the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’.

  • Day 24 Leknes (Lofoten Islands), Norway

    In the land of the midnight sun, the colorful sky stretches out infinitely and frames the majestic mountain peaks, peaceful inlets and untamed seashore of the Lofoten Islands. Nestled here is the picturesque harbor town of Leknes, boasting natural surroundings considered by many to be the most stunning in Norway. Opportunities for kayaking, hiking or beachcombing are plentiful. Leknes is also a hub for shopping and trade, so you are sure to find a perfect souvenir.

    Today sail south on the Norwegian Sea and enjoy the spoils of your Holland America Line cruise ship.

  • Day 26 Cruising Geirangerfjord

    Sail into the spectacular UNESCO listed Geirangerfjord, a narrow corridor some 15km long through the coastal mountains and one of the most beautiful spots in Scandinavia – if not the world. These are among the planet’s longest and deepest fjords, with steep walls of rock dropping some 500 meters below the water’s surface and rising 1,400 meters above sea level. Waterfalls tumble down from high above, free-flowing rivers snake through forests and glacial lakes stretch for miles. Enjoy the clean, crisp Norwegian air and stunning scenery from the small village of Geiranger.

  • Day 27 Bergen, Norway

    Beautiful Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city, is one of the most popular ports of call on a cruise up the fjords. Step off the ship into the medieval Bryggen wharf area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, where small boats line the harbor and wooden gabled buildings stand proud along the waterfront. Bergen’s rich maritime tradition goes back nearly 1,000 years. Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore one of Europe’s oldest settlements.
