    Welcome to Budapest! You will be met and transferred from the airport to your Emerald Waterways luxury river cruise ship. After boarding, enjoy some time at your leisure to explore Budapest. This evening join your fellow travellers for a night–time cruise along the Danube, passing under the city’s numerous bridges, whilst enjoying a traditional Hungarian welcome dinner complete with folk dancing and music.

  • Day 2 Budapest

    Budapest is Eastern Europe’s liveliest and most cosmopolitan city. Enjoy a guided tour of the city sights including the Hungarian Parliament Building, the Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge linking Buda and Pest or an exciting hike on the Buda Hill. This afternoon you depart for Bratislava.

  • Day 3 Bratislava

    This morning we arrive at the city of Bratislava, capital of the Republic of Slovakia. Enjoy a sightseeing tour including the enchanting Old City with its Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin.

  • Day 4 Vienna

    Today you have a choice of either exploring Austria’s capital beginning with a drive along the Ringstrasse, where we will see Vienna’s world–famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Spanish Riding School, Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Alternatively, join the guided bike tour instead of the drive around and guided walk. Then you have free time to sample the wonderful tastes of Vienna.

  • Day 5 Durnstein - Melk

    In the morning we arrive in Dürnstein, one of the most enchanting villages of the Wachau wine region. This is the site of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades in the 12th century. Thereafter you drive through the picturesque landscape of this district to the 900–year old Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which features Austria’s finest Italian baroque architecture.

  • Day 6 Passau

    Cruise along the Danube this morning, in the afternoon we reach Passau. Cobblestone streets and graceful arcades welcome you in this beautiful city. On this afternoon’s walking tour, stroll through the old town’s narrow alleys and see the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress from the town below. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a wonderful example of Baroque architecture and home to Europe’s largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes.

  • Day 7 Regensburg - Kelheim

    After breakfast we arrive in magnificent Regensburg. On our guided walking tour you’ll have the chance to see one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube and see the city’s architectural highlights including the Old Town Hall.

  • Day 8 Nuremberg

    Today you will have a sightseeing coach tour of the historic city of Nuremberg. Your coach tour would pass by the 900-year-old ramparts, the Imperial Castle and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946. You will also get the chance to pass by the Nazi party rally grounds, where rallies were held from 1933 until 1938. Afterwards take a self-guided tour of the WWII Documentation Centre or instead enjoy free time in the city centre.

  • Day 9 Bamberg

    This morning we arrive at Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Boasting one of Europe’s largest intact medieval town centres, Bamberg is bursting with original character and charm. At the centre of the town is the largest preserved old quarter in Europe.

  • Day 10 Wurzburg

    Known as the “Pearl of the Romantic Road”, Wurzburg is surrounded by sloping hills covered with vineyards. Join our guide for a walking tour of Wurzburg followed by a visit to the Bishops’ Residenz, one of Germany’s largest and most ornate baroque palaces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your tour highlights the palace’s unique staircase, elaborate 18th century frescoes and the amazing 3–dimensional stuccowork.

  • Day 11 Wertheim - Miltenberg

    Today we start from the stunning medieval glass-blowing town of Wertheim, where you have the opportunity to explore on your own. Then, travel by coach to the picturesque village of Miltenberg on the Main River. The village creates an imitable feeling of Bavarian life in the middle ages and the Old Town is lined with well–preserved half–timbered buildings. The gothic Merchant Hall is an impressive symbol of past affluence created by trade from river traffic. After your guided tour enjoy free time until the ship arrives.

  • Day 12 Rudesheim- Koblenz

    After breakfast arrive in Rüdesheim, one of Germany’s most popular towns. You will either have a choice of visiting the Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum or if you feel active take a guided hike to a local winery. In your free time, continue exploring and perhaps taste the famous “Rudesheimer Coffee”, made with Germany’s most famous brandy Asbach Uralt. After lunch, the ships will sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge. We will pass the infamous Lorelei Rock where sailors are said to have been lured onto treacherous rocks by enchanted temptresses. In the early evening we arrive into the beautiful 2,000 year old town of Koblenz.

  • Day 13 Cologne

    The ship sails from Koblenz in the early morning, cruising along the Rhine we arrive in Cologne. Founded by the Romans, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities and is famous for its magnificent World–heritage listed Gothic Cathedral and market squares lined with cafes, shops and beer halls. This evening the captain will be delighted to welcome you to the Captain’s Farewell Gala Dinner.

  • Day 14 Amsterdam

    The ship sails along the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal and into Amsterdam. This morning you can decide to either enjoy a glass top canal boat tour through Amsterdam’s canal or a guided bike tour. For those on the canal cruise, afterwards continue with an orientation walk followed by free time, to visit some other famous attractions, such as the Rijks or Van Gogh Museums, or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere and watch the world go by.

  • Day 15 Amsterdam

    After breakfast, disembark your Emerald Waterways river cruise ship and transfer to your centrally located hotel and enjoy a full day at leisure in Amsterdam. Perhaps visit the Van Gogh or Rijks Museum, home to works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, visit the Anne Frank House, wander the Flower Market, stroll the shops or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere and watch the world go by.

  • Day 16 Amsterdam

    Enjoy a leisurely morning in Amsterdam. Later, transfer to the cruise terminal to board the Holland America Line MS Prinsendam. A warm welcome awaits from your ship’s crew as you settle into your Ocean View Stateroom, with an evening departure and your first night’s dinner onboard.

    Relax onboard today as we sail across the North Sea towards the United Kingdom and explore the spoils of your Holland America Line cruise ship.

  • Day 18 Rosyth (Edinburgh), Scotland

    From the port of Rosyth, you are only minutes away from one of the most charming cities in Western Europe: the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. Edinburgh is known not only for its nearly fairy-tale appearance, with a castle hovering over the city centre, but also for its rich arts scene and long cultural heritage. Enjoy a day at leisure to explore or join an optional shore excursion offered on board as part of a programme available. Perhaps take a tour of Edinburgh Castle or make the pilgrimage to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews for a tour of the course and town.

  • Day 20 Torshavn, Faroe Islands

    Named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder, and flanked by the large mountains Húsareyn and Kirkjubøreyn, the Faroese capital is at once dramatic, peaceful, quaint and modern. Home to approximately a third of the Faroese population, the town was founded in the 10th century, making it one of the oldest capitals in Northern Europe, as well as one of the world’s smallest.

  • Day 21 Djupivogur, Iceland

    Djúpivogur, a quiet fishing village with fewer than 500 residents, sits on the eastern coast of Iceland and dates back to the days of the Vikings. Despite the fearsome reputation of those who first established Djúpivogur, today what draws visitors to this remote corner of the country is its dramatic natural setting. Perhaps take an optional shore excursion to the beautiful Hoffellsjökull Glacier.

  • Day 22 Akureyri – Cruising Eyjafjordur, Iceland

    Often described as the capital of north Iceland, the country’s second-largest city is both vibrant and pretty, and serves as an ideal hub for exploring the incredible landscape that surrounds it. Akureyri was originally settled in the 9th century and was first officially mentioned as a city in the 16th century. Enjoy a day at leisure to wander the scenic harbour, shops, buzzing cafes and upscale restaurants or visit the botanical garden. This evening we will cruise the Eyjafjordur, the longest fjord in Iceland surrounded by snow-streaked mountains.

  • Day 23 Ísafjörður – Cruising Isafjardurdjur, Iceland

    Bordered on three sides by dramatic mountains that form a natural harbor, the idyllic town of Ísafjörður serves as a charming exploration hub for the surrounding Westfjords peninsula. Settled since the 16th century, and traditionally dependent on fishing as its main source of income, its streets are today lined with old wooden houses interspersed with shops, restaurants and cafés. Follow the region’s striking coastline and you’ll find snow-streaked mountains, waterfalls and beaches.

  • Day 24 Reykjavik, Iceland

    Laid-back and effortlessly cool, the world’s most northerly capital is like nowhere else on earth. With geothermal water pumping through its veins and a staggering backdrop of lava fields, majestic glaciers and rainbow-colored houses, Reykjavík is famous for its natural wonders and dramatic scenery. Enjoy two full days to explore Iceland’s capital city, with the opportunity to join excursions organised by your ship travel desk onboard. Swimming in the Blue Lagoon, whale watching and glacier safaris are just some of the options available.

  • Day 26 Heimaey, Westmand Islands, Iceland

    This charming Arctic settlement of around 4,500 people (and millions of wild puffins) offers unique opportunities for sightseeing. The visually dramatic setting is particularly suited to photographers looking to capture memorable vistas.

  • Day 28 Lerwick, Shetland Islands, United Kingdom

    Although part of the United Kingdom, Shetland’s roots are as much Norse as Scottish. This is reflected in the archipelago’s many archaeological sites, cultural events and a unique dialect that borrows heavily from Old Norse. Located midway between Scotland, Norway and the Faroe Islands, the archipelago is home to diverse animal life including the iconic Shetland ponies, easily recognizable by their distinctive short legs and heavy fur coats. Enjoy exploring Lerwick or join an optional shore excursion available onboard.
