    Arrive in Barcelona and be transferred to your hotel in Barcelona, the vibrant capital of Catalonia. Meet your Tour Director and fellow passengers for a welcome dinner and briefing.

  • Day 2 Barcelona

    Your city tour today takes in Montjuic, the picturesque hill overlooking the city and former Jewish settlement. Visit Sagrada Familia the famous cathedral designed by Gaudi whose controversial and intricate design is reflected in much of Barcelona’s architecture. Stroll the corridor of Las Ramblas where street performers feature on every corner, then through the old town. The rest of your afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, enjoy dinner at an authentic Catalan farmhouse.

    Enjoy a full day at leisure today. Your Tour Director will be on hand to assist you in planning your day. Perhaps visit the Bullring, the magnificent Noucamp stadium, or relax along the waterfront area.

  • Day 4 Barcelona – Madrid

    Journey by high speed train to Madrid (included), then transfer to your centrally located hotel. Your sightseeing tour includes the Sabatini Gardens and the 18th century Royal Palace of Madrid as well as an orientation tour of the downtown Austrian quarter featuring the impressive Plaza Major. Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

  • Day 5 Madrid

    A day at leisure in Madrid to possibly visit the Prado Museum or Bullring.

  • Day 6 Madrid to Cordoba

    Travel south and visit Consuegra which is famous for the best examples of Spanish windmills and the home of the Spanish knights. Arrive in Cordoba a city known for its blend of Jewish and Moorish influences.

  • Day 7 Cordoba – Granada

    Your morning guided tour takes in the Aljama Mosque one of the most emblematic examples of Islamic Art which famously features a Christian cathedral inside it. After free time for lunch, continue onto Granada and enjoy a walking orientation of the city centre and a free evening.

  • Day 8 Granada – Malaga

    Granada is home to the impressive Alhambra Palace, one of Spain’s most recognisable Moorish structures completed in the 14th century when Spain was largely occupied by Muslim invaders. Visit this impressive UNESCO World Heritage site. En route to Malaga You’re Invited to a home hosted lunch in Alfarnatejo a typical Andalusian village. Continue to Malaga, on the ‘Costa del Sol’.

  • Day 9 Malaga

    This morning take a guided walking tour of Malaga seeing the Alcazaba Walls and Gibralfaro Castle. Visit the Museum of Arts located in a historical building showcasing local traditions. This afternoon and evening are at leisure to go to the beach, stroll the shops and promenade.

  • Day 10 Gibraltar – Seville

    The rock of Gibraltar is a territory of the United Kingdom that sits at the mouth of the Mediterranean at the very foot of Spain. For many centuries it has been an important strategic port for the British Navy. Visit the Rock which is home to Barbary Apes and diverse birdlife as well as the old town dotted with traditional English pubs. Continue onto Seville and check into your hotel where dinner is included in a local restaurant.

  • Day 11 Seville

    Seville is the capital of Andalucia. Visit the impressive 15th Century Cathedral built on the site of the former mosque, incorporating the famous Bell Tower as part of its structure. Wander the windy laneways of the old town then visit Seville’s wonderful Plaza de Espana and Alcazar.

  • Day 12 Seville – Lisbon

    Travel through the Aracena mountain range into Portugal. Arrive in the capital Lisbon in the afternoon and settle into your hotel where dinner is included.

  • Day 13 Lisbon

    Join your local guide for a city tour of this fascinating city, one of the oldest in Europe. View the impressive Belem Tower and see the Monument to the Discoverers. Enjoy a tasting of local pastries and a visit to Jeronimos Monastery then the rest of the day is at leisure to explore the old town or visit the famous castle.

    Another full day at leisure in Lisbon to maybe shop or further explore the old town and waterfront.

  • Day 15 Lisbon – Porto Embarkation

    Travel north along the Atlantic coast and visit the country’s historic capital of Coimbra en route to Porto. Embark on your Emerald Waterways Star Ship and be welcomed by your captain and crew of the Emerald Radiance as you settle into your stateroom or suite. Tonight, enjoy dinner on board while enjoying the illuminations of Porto.

  • Day 16 Porto – Pinhao

    Today enjoy a full day sailing the windy turns and twists of the Douro Valley. A UNESCO world heritage site this area is sparsely populated by small quaint villages and typical communities working vineyards and small farms. In the morning join a painting class of local mosaic tiles which typically depict traditional motives. Your Cruise Director will also host a lecture on board showcasing the history and wine culture of the region. Later this afternoon arrive in the village of Pinhao which is situated on a river bend surrounded by terraced hillsides producing some of the world’s best Port. Tonight your captain will be delighted to host the welcome dinner and cocktail reception.

  • Day 17 Pinhao - Vega de Terron

    Today you will have a choice to visit the marvelous baroque village of Lamego and the picturesque Our Lady of Remedies Sanctuary where history stands still. Alternatively, take part on a guided hike through local vineyards. Return to your ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing to Vega de Terron, your gateway into Spain.

  • Day 18 Salamanca

    Founded in Roman times, the city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, the seat of the Spanish language, and still a lively student town. Board your coach this morning in Vega de Terron and travel to this beautiful golden city for a guided walking tour passing through its grand squares and medieval structures, where you will feel like stepping back in time. Tapas bars feature on every street and traditional Spanish music trickles out of buzzing bars and restaurants. You will also have plenty of free time to explore independently before returning to the ship later this afternoon.

  • Day 19 Pocinho

    This morning arrive in Pocinho and either embark on an excursion to the Coa Valley Museum or take part on the Emerald Active canoeing experience. The Coa Valley Museum is a concrete structure that details pre-historic stone carvings made by the early inhabitants of the Douro, which were uncovered during the construction of the nearby dam. Later return to your ship for lunch and enjoy your idyllic surroundings as you sail towards Regua.

    This morning you will visit the former roman settlement of Regua. After the village tour, visit the Douro Museum for a look at wine making in the region.

  • Day 21 Porto

    Located at the mouth of the Douro River, Porto is a fascinating eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. Its most famous export is of course fortified wine, and the hillside across from the city centre features numerous wine caves and tasting boutiques in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia. Sample the local fair in one of these specially adapted wine cellars and learn about the long adapted craft of creating port.
