Effortlessly suspended in time, Dürnstein is one of the most frequented parts of the Wachau wine region, where the delightful warm weather creates the perfect setting for viticulture.
Today, we are visiting Schallaburg Castle, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Europe. You will be immersed into thousands of years of architecture, learning how many architectural styles exist beside each other, starting with roman fortifications, passing Gothic buildings and moving into the beautiful Renaissance castle. After the castle visit, you will walk up to the historic Renaissance shooting range, established some 450 years ago where you will try longbow-archery, before tasting the regions pear and apple ciders.
Alternatively, you can hike the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, where a delightful panoramic view of the surrounding medieval villages, vineyards and forest is certain to delight.
